WEEE COORDINATION CENTRE “WEEE REPORT 2023 – OFFICIAL DATA ON ELECTRONIC WASTE COLLECTION IN ITALY”
The WEEE Coordination Centre published the “WEEE Report 2023 – Official data on electronic waste collection in Italy”.
In 2023, more than 349,000 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) were sent for proper recycling in Italy, a decrease of 3.1% compared to 2022.
The contraction in collection volumes is smaller than last year’s and is determined solely by the double-digit drop in Group 3 – TVs and monitors which, after the exponential growth of 2021 linked to the TV bonus, continued its physiological downward trend, recording -32.9% compared to 2022. In contrast to the previous year, all the other four groups grew.
The Northern regions maintain their supremacy in terms of overall collection volumes, amounting to 181,406 tonnes and accounting for 52% of the total, and keep their leadership in terms of per capita collection (6.63 kg/inhabitant), while the Central region’s collection is higher than the national average (6.14 kg/inhabitant). The sharp drop in the South macro area, on the other hand, lands the area’s per capita figure at 4.72 kg/inhabitant.
